Origin: France. Not on Santerre's list nor in Cordillot's appendix (which
  has Alexandre and Alexis) -- Sandell's directory and the 1868 records
  are the only witnesses.

  - June 4, 1868: signed the Trinity-navigation memorial
  - September 1868: City Marshal on Gen. Reynolds's slate -- Mayor Long,
    Marshal John F. Barbier, Treasurer Gouffe, Alderman Boll (Brown 1892;
    Sandell IV; Kagay n. 76). Sandell's directory calls him "assistant city
    marshal," reversing the brothers.
  - February 15, 1871: Barbier Street opened, named for him (Sandell IV);
    Kagay lists it with the streets named for Cantagrel, Loupot and Remond
