The participants' own words, in full: the books and articles the witnesses wrote, transcribed by the project from the facsimiles and translated where the original is not English. Period spelling is kept; uncertain readings are flagged in the text. Modern scholarship the project holds is summarised in the dossiers rather than reprinted.
